The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) generated US$1.871 billion in foreign exchange in September 2026, exceeding its monthly target of US$1.4 billion.
A statement released on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 revealed that the amount was generated from the Board’s artisanal and small-scale gold trading operations under its statutory mandate.
GoldBod said it sold US$701.3 million of the foreign exchange generated to authorised commercial banks during the month.
The statement also indicated that sales were aimed at supporting stability in the foreign exchange market and exceeded the Board’s target of US$700 million.
A further US$1.17 billion was provided to the Bank of Ghana to support the accumulation of the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
The amount provided to the central bank was significantly higher than GoldBod’s monthly target of US$700 million.
For October, GoldBod expects to generate US$1.5 billion in foreign exchange from its gold trading operations.
The statement also stated that the projected amount, US$1 billion is expected to be made available to authorised commercial banks to support foreign exchange market stability.
The remaining US$500 million will be provided to the Bank of Ghana to support reserve accumulation in line with the Ghana Accelerated National Reserves Accumulation Programme (GANRAP).
GoldBod said the October foreign exchange sales will be conducted under its newly developed Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework.
According to the Board, the framework is designed to promote transparency, fairness and compliance with regulatory requirements in the foreign exchange market.
GoldBod said it remains committed to its statutory mandate of generating foreign exchange for Ghana and will continue to work with stakeholders to support the country’s foreign exchange and reserve management efforts.
