To reduce Ghana’s high unemployment rate, government is being asked to invest more in skills training and implementation of laws that protect the rights of domestic workers. Over 1.75 million Ghanaians are unemployed, most of them between the ages of 15 and 35.
The Managing Director of Acreaty Ghana Limited, Elsie Apau Klu, said a major contributory factor is the lack of skills training, adding, the conversion of Polytechnics to Technical Universities has led to a shift in focus from practical technical education to theory.
She was speaking at the launch of Acreaty Domestic Services which seeks to provide skills training to the youth for domestic employment.
An after effect of COVID-19 was the loss in revenue for businesses leading to downsizing and an increase in the country’s unemployment rate.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service roughly 3.5 million individuals also experienced employment fluctuations last year.
According to the Managing Director of Acreaty Ghana Limited, Elsie Apau Klu, Acreaty believes this could have been avoided or the numbers reduced with skills training.
She said Acreaty is seeking to train at least one thousand people for employment. Persons interested can register online and may be required to pay a small fee depending on the skills needed.
