The Director of Business Support and Development at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Mr. Vincent Ohene-Ntow, has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama aims to create 10,000 businesses annually through the “Adwumawura” initiative.

Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on October 7, 2025, he affirmed that the government’s primary goal is to empower young people to own and manage their own businesses by equipping them with the necessary skills.

According to him, the government is committed to supporting all types of businesses, whether small, large, or at the ideation stage as long as they demonstrate the potential to create additional jobs.

He further explained that a total of 120,000 youth applications were received for the initiative, out of which 1,000 applicants were selected following a rigorous screening process conducted by the British Council, the University of Ghana Business School, the Ghana Chamber of Youth Entrepreneurs, and three senior management staff from NEIP.

He also clarified that the selection process was not influenced by political or partisan considerations, and urged Ghanaians to focus on supporting the selected viable businesses rather than speculating that the process was politically biased.

Vincent Ohene-Ntow then affirmed that the matriculation ceremony signified that the 10,000 selected youths had met the minimum requirements and are now set to begin their training.

Out of the 10,000 youths, 2,000 will receive direct government grants to invest taxpayers’ money into their businesses. He further explained that the training program is structured to take place in person over a five-week period.

The first week will focus on core life skills training. Week two and three will cover the fundamentals of business integrity, while weeks four and five will guide participants in developing a comprehensive business plan and pitch deck.
