Some staff members of the Keta Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have expressed displeasure over the continuous stay in office of the College’s retired Principal, Rejoice Aheto.

They alleged that her four-year tenure of administration was marred with bad leadership style and mismanagement; hence her presence at the helm of affairs will lead to the collapse of the College.

Speaking at a Press Conference in Keta, the Spokesperson for the concerned staff, Sekyi Apraku called on the Ministry of Health, the appointing authority to as a matter of urgency compel Ms Aheto to handover the position to a new person to prevent mayhem at the College.

The Keta Nursing and Midwifery Training College has a student population of 720 and staff strength of 54 comprising 20 teaching staff and 32 non- teaching staff.

The concerned staff and students of the College numbered more than three hundred alleged that since the Principal, Rejoice Aheto took office in 2018 she deliberately created divisions to the extent of promoting junior officers above their seniors.

The concerned staff also alleged that she misapplied the College’s financial resources for the procurement of goods and services.

A typical example was the procurement of an expensive automatic disinfection machine during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has become a white elephant at the College’s main campus.

The funds they noted could have been used to furnish the College’s computer lab which is under resourced though students pay computer maintenance fees.

They also noted that payment of allowances to tutors in particular have been in arrears due to misappropriation of funds.

The Spokesperson for the concerned staff, Sekyi Apraku appealed to the Ministry of Health to ensure that Ms Aheto vacates the office, saying further delay will lead to some staff applying for transfer.

The President of the College’s Students Representative Council, Eric Kwaku Atsu said students are being over billed under the administration of Ms Aheto.

He said though they have channeled their grievances to the appropriate quarters for redress they have fallen on deaf ears.

Meanwhile, Ms Aheto has debunked all the allegations leveled against her. She said every decision she took as the Principal of the College was in line with the rules of the administration of the institution.

She added that all procurements done during her administration went through the right channel after approval by management.

Ms Aheto feels she is being vilified by the concerned staff and students because of her principled leadership style.

She said though she is officially on retirement, she cannot vacate her position until she hands over to a new Principal appointed by the Ministry of Health.
