Kloma Hengme Association, a Krobo Youth  Advocacy Group in the Krobo enclave, has officially announced plans to embark on a peaceful protest to demand immediate action on the deplorable nature of the Somanya-Odumase-Kpong Highway.

In a statement addressed to authorities, the Chairman of the Association, Isaac Tamatey Otu, cited the unbearable hardship the deplorable state of the highway continues to pose to residents of Yilo and Manya Krobo as well as road users.

The statement noted that the highway serves as a vital link for commuters, traders, students, and local businesses.

The release added that the worsening nature of the highway has become a daily source of frustration, hardship, and also posing danger to commuters.

The statement further hinted that the dust pollution, massive potholes, and general deterioration of the road are not only damaging vehicles but also threatening livelihoods and endangering lives of road users.

According to the Association, reconstruction works that began in July 2024 have since stalled, with the contractor abandoning the site at the beginning of this year.

The peaceful demonstration is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., starting from the Somanya Roundabout through the principal streets of Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo and ending at the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly in Odumase-Krobo. Protesters are expected to march along the main Somanya-Odumase-Kpong highway.

Kloma Hengme Association has assured the public and authorities that the protest will be non-violent and orderly.

The Association has also pledged to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure the safety of all participants and to minimize disruptions to traffic.

Residents and civil society organizations see this protest as a bold step in demanding accountability and responsiveness from government authorities.
