A former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Now, has reacted to his expulsion from the party for publicly declaring his support for Alan Kyerematen.

Admitting the party hasn’t faulted constitutionally in revoking his membership, the decision sounded interesting because he has not been involved in any active party activities since his service to the party in 2010.

He also said that for some time he had observed, with disappointment, some skewing within the structures of the party, which also contributed to Alan’s withdrawal and resignation.

On Monday, November 20, 2023, the NPP, in a release, said Nana Ohene Ntow, along with three others, had forfeited their membership in the party. The four—Nana Ohene Ntow, Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, and Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Sadiq—were cited for breaching constitutional provisions, including endorsing the candidature of another party other than the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a response on GTV’s Breakfast Show, Nana Ohene Ntow claimed the party was currently undergoing some breaks due to the unresolved divisions, accusing the President of failing to manage the factionalism within the party ever since he became the Flagbearer and automatic leader in 2008.

The former General Secretary of the NPP also mentioned that the news of his membership loss was relayed to him by a media house and not even a member or senior officer of the party. He cited his lack of involvement as a past officer of the party as a reason he laid back on the party’s activities.

He touted the information as a significant development because it poses a great negative cloud over the NPP as elections approach. He disclosed that, for a long time, the party has developed some sort of crack, which he said may cause them in the future.

According to him, the current economic situation and mismanagement call for a very creative and prudent measure to deal with them, and that informed his decision to rally behind the former Trades and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, and his party, Movement for Change.
