President John Dramani Mahama has outlined a national mourning programme to honour the eight Ghanaians who died in the August 6 tragic military helicopter crash.
In an address to the nation on 7th August, 2025 around 9:00pm, President Mahama announced a series of commemorative events to reflect the collective grief and national respect for the victims.
On Saturday, August 9, the nation will gather at the forecourt of the State House at 5 p.m. for an evening of reflection and memorial in honour of the deceased.
From Sunday, August 10 to Thursday, August 14, books of condolence will be opened at:
Ministry of Defence
Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters
National Democratic Congress Headquarters
NADMO Head Office
The commemoration will culminate in an interdenominational state funeral on Friday, August 15 at the Black Star Square.
“These individuals gave their lives in service to Ghana,” President Mahama said. “Their final moments were spent doing the work they loved, and this is our time to honour them in unity.”
Flags are expected to fly at half-mast during this period of mourning.
