Prioritise refugee welfare – Interior Minister urges Ghana Refugee Board

The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has emphasized the importance of prioritizing refugee welfare and dignity in Ghana. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the Governing Board of the Ghana Refugee Board (GRB), The sector Minister urged the new Board to work tirelessly to ensure that refugees receive the necessary protection, care, and support. 

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak said the GRB currently manages over 20,000 registered refugees from approximately 40 countries, with the majority hailing from Burkina Faso.

He urged the board to operate as a united and committed team, guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, professionalism, and patriotism.

He assured the Board of the government’s full support through the Interior Ministry in facilitating their work. According to him, the constitution of the board is a significant step forward in strengthening the management of refugee affairs and upholding Ghana’s longstanding humanitarian values. 

For his part, the Chairman of the newly constituted Board, Mr Joseph Azumah, pledged his team’s dedication to working diligently and collaboratively with stakeholders to improve the lives of refugees in Ghana.

He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the trust and confidence placed in the board, reaffirming their commitment to effective management and support.
