Regional Psychiatric Hospital in Upper East Region dedicated

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Upper Presbytery (UP), has dedicated a 10-bed capacity specialist Regional Psychiatric hospital in the Upper East Region.

The facility, one of the Presbyterian Primary Health care centers, has been upgraded to a specialist Psychiatric hospital for the Region.

The 10-bed capacity specialist Psychiatric hospital has two Consulting rooms, a nurses’ station, changing and rest room, washrooms, and an office for administrators, aimed at providing services in adult Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, drugs, and alcohol detoxification, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Psychotherapy services.

In his remarks, the in-charge of the facility Dr. Dennis Daliri indicated that the facility provides an opportunity to stop the practice of referring mental disorders to Psychiatric facilities in the Southern part of the country for treatment.

He said the facility will position a Specialist Psychiatrist in the region  who will oversee the 15 districts in the region with the support of the Regional Director of health services.

Dr. Daliri noted they are already grateful for all the support in terms of staff and even the free Psychotropics they have received from the Directorate to assist take care of the patients.

In a keynote address, the Moderator of the General Assembly (PCG), Right Rev. Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante explained the pivotal role the PCG plays in the lives of Ghanaians.

He indicated that PCG’s mission is anchored on four thematic areas, as Christ commanded his disciples to go and be in the book of Acts 1: 8 thus the spiritual, moral, environmental, and social witness of the church.

Right Rev. Mante stated that they are serving as the prophetic  voice of the voiceless and the provision of intervention programs and the provision of social services they are serving the prophetic voice of the voiceless, provision of schools, health facility .
