Saboba District gets new Fire Station

By Joyce Kantam Kolamong

A new fire post has been commissioned to start operations in the Saboba District of the Northern Region. The fire station will provide fire protection and emergency services to Saboba and its adjoining communities. It formed part of the Northern Regional Command’s activities to mark International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD).

The Northern Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFOI James Ankrah, who commissioned the office, said the cost of a fully functioning fire station is huge, but its absence in a community has a greater consequential cost for that community and the government.

The Regional Commander, ACFOI James Ankrah, expressed his appreciation to the DCE and the assembly for providing the facility for the establishment of the new fire post. He said it will go a long way to boost investor confidence in the area with the knowledge that the presence of a fire station will secure and protect their investment from the ravages of fire.

ACFO1 Ankrah said this year alone, the command has managed to extend its coverage by opening two more fire stations: Tolon and the Saboba Fire Posts, to add to the already existing fire stations in the region. He revealed that Kpandai and Kumbungu districts will soon be commissioned.

The Regional Commander, however, appealed to the remaining districts without fire stations to endeavour to provide office space and accommodations to be used as fire stations to provide fire cover and reduce response time.

The facility was handed over to the newly appointed District Fire Officer for Saboba, ADOI Yussif Issahaku, who pledged not to disappoint him, the service, or the good people of the Saboba District.
