The convicts Raphael Tettevi, Jasper Mawulolo Agudogo and Daniel Yevugah and others have been arrested in connection with the disturbances at Aveyime on the dawn of September 25 2020.

They blocked the road at Juapong and Sogakope and set fire to two STC vehicles. The group also attacked the Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations, freed the inmates in the cells and locked up the policemen.

The court, presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, gave the sentence after considering the period the convicts have spent in lawful custody. Justice Simmons said that the convicts have already spent almost four years and eight months in custody which is almost equal to the five year maximum sentence for the offence for which they were charged. The court also ordered the three convicts to pay a fine of nine thousand, six hundred cedis and in default serve another 12 months prison term.

A fourth person Hope Mottey, said to be on the run was however jailed two years in absentia and also fined six thousand cedis. In default of payment of the fine, Hope will serve additional six months in prison. The court further ordered the convicts to sign a bond to be of good behaviour. Justice Simmons also ordered the Registrar General to struck out the organisation from the list of registered companies in the country.
