An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a trader, Jeffrey Owusu, into custody for allegedly defrauding a Senior Police Officer of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) under the pretext of helping him sell his generator.

A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of his accomplice, Alhaji Dramani Wayo, who has refused an invitation from the police.

The facts presented by Inspector Offeibea indicate that in July 2016, the senior police officer offered his generator plant, valued at fifteen thousand dollars for sale. He was subsequently introduced to the accused person who said he had a client ready to buy the equipment.

The complainant allegedly released the generator to the accused person to show to his client for inspection. The accused person after collecting the generator failed to return it and went into hiding.

In February 2017, a complaint was made, and he was arrested. He admitted the offence in his caution statement and promised to return the generator or the money to the complainant.

Accused was released on Police enquiry bail but failed to honour his promise and again went into hiding. Last March 27, a similar case was made against the accused person and that complainant led the Police to arrest him at his hideout.

During interrogation, he alleged that he sold the generator to the said Alhaji Dramani Wayo at Kumasi and led the police to his house but he was unavailable.

The case has been adjourned to April 26, 2023 for Case Management Conference.
