UNIDO assisting Ghanaian businesses to recover from COVID-19 shocks

Many economies, for that matter industries and enterprises are still recovering from the shocks of covid-19. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under its Guidelines for Business Recovery for SMEs is assisting some Ghanaians enterprises to recover faster than they would have.

The focus is to position these Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to create more decent jobs.

Giving the scale of the Covid induced crisis, the business recovery guidelines have been drawn up to in a generic fashion in order for it to be relevant to the largest possible number of enterprise (MSMEs) effectively the majority of jobs in the world economy.

An International Resilience Expert, Dr. Wandzi Gen idol, said during the Covid pandemic, businesses had to go out of operations, had to stop activities, reduce stuffing or operate at the verge of very reduced capabilities.

He noted that, “it was not just the economic impact of this reduction, it was also because many of this small businesses were involved in the response infrastructure against the pandemic and their ability to sustain operations being reduced with having a direct impact on the overall national ability to tackle the pandemic.”

Benefiting enterprise have been speaking to GBC news on impact of the strategies on their operations.

“After Covid, our core value of the company with manufacturing was shifted a little into manufacturing of bio degradable sanitizer with new oil, new extract so this training has actually equipped us with how to plan.”

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations with the mandate to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
