The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has outlined a series of security measures as part of its plans to ensure safety for its members who are expected to throng the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, 17, December 2022 to elect new National Executives for the next four years.

The security measures include the deployment of over 1,000 police officers to provide security before, during, and after the National Delegates Conference.

A member of the Planning Committee, Mr. Ludwig Hlodze in an interview explained that the security measures are aimed at forestalling the recurrence of the violent scenes recorded at the just-ended elections of the youth and women organizers position.

“So over 1000 Police Officers will be on the congress grounds to maintain law and order because we are expecting over 8,000 delegates from across the country. If you don’t have an observer tag, delegates tag, or press tag, you can’t enter the stadium.

All supporters who are not accredited would be outside the stadium singing their songs.” He hinted.

“If you don’t have the accreditation card with the security features, I advise you to sit at home and watch the elections from there,” Mr. Hlodze warned.

He further insisted that the national conference, scheduled on 17th December 2022 will be peaceful in spite of the acrimonious campaigns among the two leading candidates, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

“I assure you that there will not be any violence on the day of the elections because of the security measures put in place. What is happening between Asiedu Nketia and Ampofo is normal because even Kufour and Nana did a similar thing in the past and they sailed through, so with Aseidu Nketia and Ofosu Ampofo, they will unite and forge ahead for victory in 2024, ” he said.
