Two factories under the One-District-One-Factory Initiative are progressing steadily in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region.

One is an animal feed Processing Factory sited at Takoratwene whiles the other is a Cassava Processing factory.

The feed processing factory will commence production in June this year and is expected to produce five tonnes of feed every day. The feed can be given to birds, pigs, cattle and rabbit, among others.

The Chief Executive Officer of the project, Jeff Konadu Addo, made this known when GBC’s Michael Teye Amartey visited the project site to assess the progress of work.

The 1D1F initiative is one of the major policies of President Akufo-Addo’s administration to ensure an even and spatial spread of industries to reduce the unemployment rate in the country. It is part of government’s industrialisation agenda to propel Ghana from being an import-dependent economy to an industrial one to boost local production as well as create employment and drive growth.

As a public-private partnership initiative, government is providing the necessary support for the survival and expansion of companies under the initiative.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the project, Jeff Konadu Addo, the project is an integrated one with piggery attached to it.

He said 80 percent of the feed to be produced from the factory will be for pigs. That aside, he announced the acquisition of a fifty-acre land to produce raw materials to feed the factory.

Mr. Konadu said the piggery farm when started will process one thousand pigs monthly for consumption. He, therefore, appealed to the youth to take advantage of the One District One Factory project and venture into agriculture since there are lots of opportunities in the sector.
