GBC News’ reporters Jacob Aggrey & William Owusu Boateng report that some retailers at the Tudu Market in Accra are lamenting low patronage of their goods with barely a month until Christmas.

They blamed the situation on the economy which, they say, is characterized by inflation and frequent hikes in Market prices. To this end, they expect the government to put sound policies in place to make the economy robust and address the free fall of the Cedi. Speaking to GBC News ahead of Wednesday’s 2022 Budget Presentation, the retailers who mostly deal in clothing said the high exchange rate of the dollar and CFA is crippling their businesses.

”They are increasing the product and right now if you want to buy it the way you want to sell it to the sellers they can’t buy it because it’s expensive so they are not buying the products more like the way they do it first. So I think we need to reduce certain things like the things we are buying here, they are not buying anything like by this time you will see more people here but now once in a while, they are not coming”

” As we did formerly, you get it from the bank because these men you don’t know, the Ghana man. Oh madam go I will get it, by the time you come he has gotten a good sum of foreign currency”, according to retailers at the Tudu market in Accra.

Tamale residents on budget

Some residents of Tamale have been expressing their views ahead of the 2022 Budget statement.

According to them, prices of goods and services have been increasing at an alarming rate and this has brought untold hardship to citizens.

They, therefore, want the government to help bring down prices of goods to support the purchasing power of Ghanaians.
