35 categories of awards are up for grabs at this year’s Women in Agribusiness Awards which comes off on the 29th of October.
Women in Agribusiness Awards is dedicated to promoting women in the agriculture and the agribusiness industry and to highlight their expertise.
The Women in Agribusiness Awards will crown the week long event which will take place, from 24th to the 29th of October in three major regions in Ghana which are Greater Accra, Ashanti and Northern under the theme “Revitalising partnership for Sustainable Agribusiness Development”.
Speaking at a virtual launch of the programme, the Programme Coordinator for Women in Agribusiness Week, Akosua Dua said many times women in this sector often go unnoticed hence the awards.
Last year, 5 women who are leaders in African agribusiness were awarded for their achievements in the following categories: Agtech Innovation, Covid 19 Agribusiness Resilience, Dare to defy, sustainable green innovation, and the role model excellence…she noted.
The launch of the awards was put together by Guzakuza which is an advocacy group geared towards the welfare of women especially those in Agribusiness.
As Jane Austen said, “it isn’t what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.” And at Guzakuza, we believe that women are doing a lot, especially when it comes to agribusiness…” Akosua Dua stressed.
The award scheme is not only Ghana based but structured in way that would benefit everyone on the continent.
Other speakers at the launch reiterated the vital role women play in the whole range of agricultural activities. They noted that women make up at least half the productive workforce in some African countries.
In addition to their role as food producers, they are responsible for preparing food in the home and ensuring that their families have a nutritious diet.
However, it tends to be men, rather than women, who undertake and mostly benefit from profitable activities along agricultural value chains.
The speakers encouraged women in this sector to avail themselves for the award scheme.
