2023 OFAB Media Awards launched

The Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) has launched the 6th edition of its annual media awards to celebrate and award three winning journalists in the categories of Television, Radio and Print & Online.

This was initiated to promote excellence in science journalism and appreciate the contribution of journalists in promoting sustainable agricultural biotechnology.

Driven by a vision of sustainable food security and agriculture-driven economic development in Africa, OFAB enhances knowledge and awareness on agricultural biotechnology to build an understanding of the technology and inform decision-making.

The award seeks to reward the critical roles journalists play in promoting constructive dialogue on modern biotechnology through responsible, professional, ethical, and effective reporting in all ten of its member countries, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Rwanda, Mozambique, and Malawi.

Ghanaian journalists who have been reporting and publishing on agricultural biotechnology between the periods of June 2022 and August 2023 are encouraged to enlist their participation to enable them get appreciated.

Dr. Richard Ampedu Ameyaw, Principal Research Scientist at CSIR-Stepri and the National coordinator of OFAB Ghana says submission of entries should be done not later than August 30th via the mail,ofabghana@outlook.com. “By sending links to your published articles, documentaries or features before the deadline“ he stated.

The project officer of OFAB, Enoch Ilori said the novelty in this year’s award is the eligibility of runners-up who won previous awards over the years to re-participate. ”The runner ups were not allowed to apply again, in the previous years because we wanted more new people winning but this year”, Mr. Ilori stated.

Winners of the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology media awards in Ghana get the chance to participate in the African level of the OFAB Media Awards.

GBC’s Joyce Gyekye and Gloria Anderson won in the Radio and Televsion category in last year’s award.
