Christians all over the world held church service today to mark the birth of Christ. Traditionally, Church service on Christmas day presents an opportunity for Christians to understand and reflect on the virtues of Jesus such as love, compassion and forgiveness.
In Ghana, it is a day when most believers including regular and non-regular church goers attend service to fully participate and revere in the ecstasy of the season. The situation this year has not been different from previous ones.
A visit to some Churches by GBC News brought to the fore fully packed auditoriums with congregants flamboyantly dressed and singing their hearts out in commemoration of the occasion. The sermon delivered by almost all the Ministers of the Gospel, centered on love, forgiveness, compassion and renewed hope in Christ.
Christmas has been celebrated since time immemorial spanning almost four millennia. It is an important festival for many Christians as it helps nourish their souls in most symbolic ways. For instance, the occasion serves as a reminder of the strong faith Mary and Joseph both had in God, despite the difficulties they faced.
Over the years, Christmas has metamorphosed in forms and shape especially in this era of Covid and its attendant restrictions on social gathering. Regardless, almost all the churches GBC News visited on Christmas Day were filled to capacity amid strict adherence to the safety protocols.

At the Desert Pastures of the Fountain Gate Chapel in Bolgatanga, the Founder, Reverend Eastwood Anaba spoke on the need for parents to have the heart of forgiveness to imbibe in their children such Christ-like virtues.

He said, ”the most important thing to do on Christmas is to adopt the persona of Christ  to be above spiritual and physical stagnation”.

At the First Love Chapel of the LightHouse Chapel International, the Founder Bishop Dag Heward Mills asked Christians to be together and not to take unity for granted.

In today’s day and time, it is easy to lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas.

Amidst the delicious meals, sweet drinks, lovely songs and dances, a rendezvous with beautiful friends and family members, it is important to remember that the reason for the season is Jesus Christ.
