The Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu North in the Volta Region, Anthony Avorgbedor has assured residents of his commitment to resolve the issue of acute water supply in Dzodze and its surrounding communities.

He said provision of potable water is among the priority areas he intends to focus on next year in a bid to bring relief to the communities without running water in the municipality.

Mr Avorgbedor who disclosed this in an interview with GBC News appealed for support from NGOs and other philanthropists.

Residents of Dzodze, the Municipal capital of the Ketu North Municipality in the Volta Region and its adjoining communities have been hit with water crises for several months.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said many households in the Municipality have not had water flowing through the pipes from the Dzodze Community Water Supply Systems for nearly a year.

The situation has been a burden on residents who have no option than to rely on the services of tricycles and motorbikes to get water to their homes for a fee.

When contacted, the Immediate Past Chairman of the Dzodze Community Water Board, Christian Abofra said they were unable to meet demands of residents due to government’s failure to pay the board debts owed from the free water supply introduced by the government last year.

He said that has led to his resignation and the collapse of the board.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu North, Anthony Avorgbedor, however, pledged his commitment to ensuring that the water challenges are addressed in his second term in office.

Mr. Avorgbedor also warned residents, especially, the youth to desist from illegal sand mining.
