The Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Joycelyn Tetteh has reiterated the commitment of the Minority Caucus in Parliament to vote against the Electronic Transaction Bill, (e-Levy).

She said the Bill when passed will inflict untold hardship on the ordinary Ghanaian, therefore the 137 Minority MPs will continue to stand firm to ensure that the E-levy does not see the light of the day.

Madam Joycelyn spoke in an interview with GBC News at the first ever North Dayi Borborbor festival held at Anfoega in the Volta Region.

The controversial e-levy Bill continues to be at the centre of discussion on the lips of many Ghanaians since it was introduced by the government in the 2022 budget.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta presenting the 2022 Budget Statement on November 17 this year announced the new 1.75% levy to be charged by the government on all electronic transactions as part of its measures to widen the county’s tax net.

However, the Minority in Parliament has registered their displeasure, insisting that the implementation of the Bill will worsen the plight of Ghanaians.

The Minority Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Joycelyn Tetteh said, though the controversial e-Levy Bill was approved for consideration by the House despite the resistance of the Minority, they will not relent in their efforts to get the bill rejected when Parliament returned from recess.

Madam Joycelyn said the Borborbor competition is aimed at improving and preserving the cultural heritage of the people of North Dayi and the Volta Region as a whole.
”The festival will be held every year to imbibe the Ewe culture in the young generation.”, she noted.

The 12 participating groups include Peace and Love, Dunenyo, Dynamic, Next level, and the New Generation Borborbor groups.

Each group took home special awards worth thousands of Ghana cedis depending on their area of specialization.
