Twenty–three communities in the Sefwi Akontombra District of the Western North Region can now enjoy good drinking water through the provision of mechanized boreholes.

Among the beneficiary communities are Yawkrom, Ayisakrom Kramokrom,Chorichori and Fawoman.

This was disclosed by the District Chief Executive, Yawson Amoah, in an interview with Radio Ghana at Bosomoiso near Sefwi Wiawso to commemorate the World Water Day.

Since 1993, every 22 March has been a UN observance called “World Water Day”. It is a day to reflect on the importance of water in daily lives of people as well as to remember those who lack adequate drinking water supplies.

The theme for 2019 is ‘Leaving no one behind’, which looks at why people have been left behind and how access to water and sanitation and sustainable water management can be drivers of change.

According to Mr. Yawson Amoah, the projects were funded by the District Assembly and the MP through his share of the Assembly’s Common Fund.

Mr. Yawson Amoah said plans are underway to extend the projects to other needy communities including Dapaakrom, Congo and others.

He underscored the importance of water to to human beings as well as every living creature and called for concerted effort to protect the water bodies in our country since water is life and has no substitute.
Mr. Yawson Amoah therefore cautioned against the illegal mining and illegal sand winning at river banks which tends to pollute the water bodies.
