SIM Card re-registration, some concerns

Following the government’s directive to have all SIM Cards re-registered, beginning October 2021 to March 2022, hundreds of people have been trooping to SIM registrations Centres in compliance and to beat the deadline.

It was Chaotic at SIM Registration Centers GBC News Visited, with many people queuing up.

When the News Team visited some MTN and Vodafone telecommunication centres at Circle, Osu and 37 in Accra on Thursday, January 6, 2022, long queues of subscribers were seen standing in the scorchy sun waiting to be attended to.

The aged were not left out, as the only solution was to sit on the bare ground due to limited Chairs for persons in queue.

Some subscribers claim they had been patronizing the centres for the last 3 days.

Others also complained about reporting to the centre as early as 4:00 a.m.

One of the issues in question however is that of poor networking.

Moving from their points to other areas to re-register SIM Cards also seemed like a complete bother, and quite stressful.

One of the registrants thinks it is quite a stressful situation.

”The stress we go through before to have SIMS registered is unnecessary”, she said.

The situation however varies depending on the Telcos.

Requirements for the re-registration of SIM Cards include the Ghana Card and Digital Address.

However, some citizens claim they are yet to receive their Ghana Cards, after having registered.

Their appeal is to have the period for the SIM re-registration extended, in order to ensure every eligible Ghanaian is enrolled.
