Two projects inaugurated in Eastern region as part of 10-year Anniversary of late President Atta-Mills

By Seth Ayiah

As part of activities lined up to commemorate the 10 year passing of former President, Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, the Atta Mills Institute, AMI, has inaugurated two projects for Gonteng, a Community sitting in the belly of the Aburi Mountains in the Eastern Region.

The project consists of a Three-Unit Classroom Block and a Cassava and Corn Mill facility. The classroom block was built under AMI’s Civic Education and Public Policy Advocacy, while the milling facility was built under the auspices of AMI’s Ministry of Kindness.

Support for the two projects came from the National Lottery Authority, NLA.

Seth Eyiah reports that for decades, the people of Gonteng have had to trek hours to Aburi to have their maize and cassava milled for domestic consumption.

The Chief Executive of Atta Mills Institute, Koku Anyidoho in September 2021 broke the grounds for the project and it was completed in four months. The school building’s renovation included replacing the existing dilapidated chalk-consuming blackboards, with white marker boards.

Sticking to its desire to hinge renovation work on AMI’s “Mindset Transformation for Nation Building Agenda”, all the classrooms have been provided with well-embossed wall hangings of the National Anthem and National Pledge. This is to keep the words of the two critical national assets firmly etched on the minds of the pupils and teachers.

Mr. Anyidoho expressed gratitude to God for making it possible for the construction of the milling facility for the people of Gonteng. He said, gauging from the joy on the faces of the people, his heart beams with satisfaction that the Atta Mills Institute is serving humanity.

Mr. Anyidoho added that the school project is to provide a more conducive atmosphere for the children to acquire knowledge and also enable the teachers to function in a bit more comfort.

He was grateful to the Director-General of NLA, Sammi Awuku for agreeing to partner AMI to provide the two projects.

This partnership, he said is a beginning of a long and lasting relationship as both organizations collaborate effectively and efficiently to contribute to building a better Ghana.

The Director-General of NLA, Sammi Awuku, said the NLA is more than ready to go into a long term partnership with AMI to expand the frontiers of its Good Causes Foundation. He said AMI has justified the need to be supported and assured it of NLA’s needed support for its growth as far as its good works are concerned.

The 10-year Anniversary activities of the late President, John Evans Atta Mills, will be climaxed on July 24, with President Akufo-Addo inaugurating the exquisitely constructed building at the Asomdwee Park in Accra.
