The Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent Mike Baah says his Unit will not relent in prosecuting criminals engaged in any form of Human Trafficking. In view of this, the Unit in collaboration with other security agencies with intensified efforts to arrest perpetrators of such act.
Chief Superintendent Baah was speaking at the opening of a three-day Capacity building Session for law enforcement officials in Ho the Volta Regional Capital.
The training which is organized by the Human Trafficking Secretariat under the auspices of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection aims to enhance the basic skills of law enforcement agencies and social workers to enable them to identify and manage Human Trafficking cases.
It will also allow the Human Trafficking Secretariat to further educate the targeted participants on the relevant laws relating to Human Trafficking.
The Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent Mike Baah said Human Traffickers’ risk having their assets confiscated to serve as a deterrent to others. He gave the assurance that the Police together with other relevant stakeholders will continue to work assiduously to rescue and protect victims of such crime.
The Head of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, Abena Anobia Asare urged those who wish to travel or migrate to other countries to use the right channels so as to avoid falling victim to Human Trafficking.
The about 70 Participants were brought in from the various Municipalities and Districts across the Volta and Oti Regions. They include, Administrative staff of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, The Expertise France Team, National Security Officers, staff of EOCO, Social workers as well as Officers from the Immigration, Custom and Police Services.
The Volta Region is the third to benefit from the training, following similar trainings in the Central and Western Regions.
The project is funded by the European Union with support from Expertise France.
