3-month-old baby dies of covid-19 as Northern region’s case count rises to 52

The case count for COVID-19 in the Northern Region now stands at fifty-two with three deaths and thirty-two recoveries.

The Northern Regional Director of Health, Dr. John Eleeza, disclosed this in an interview with GBC News in Tamale.

He stated that the three deaths include an eighty-year-old who died over a month ago, a twenty-four-year-old woman who was brought from Bolgatanga in the Upper East region and a three-month-old baby who was referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital from Savelugu.

Dr. Eleeza also revealed that most victims of COVID-19 in the region are young persons aged between twenty-five and thirty-five years.

“We have realized that, the age group between 25-35 years are the most affected, with eleven women and thirteen men within that age bracket affected,” he stated.

It has also emerged that, a twenty-five-year-old man, who was recently sentenced to a ten-year jail term for defiling a two-year-old girl, has tested for the virus.

The Regional Health Directorate says they are collaborating with the regional police command carry out contact tracing.
