The Takoradi Divisional Police Command has arrested three suspects for allegedly faking a kidnapping and demanding a ransom of GHC5,000.
A statement by the Police Service indicates that Joana Krah, 29, conspired with Susana Awortwi 27 and Francis Eshun 27 to feign kidnapping on Friday, 22nd October, 2021after which they placed a call to Joana’s adopted father in demand for the ransom.
The statement said when Joana became aware that her adopted father had reported the issue to the police and an extensive search had commenced to find her, she showed up at the Takoradi Central Police Station on Saturday, October 23, 2021, to confess of only joking with her adopted father that she was kidnapped.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the two other suspects for their complicity. The 3 suspects are being processed for court Monday, October 25, 2021.
The statement advised the public to desist from the act of faking kidnapping for monetary gains since it is a criminal act, adding that such persons when caught will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
