The Navrongo Magistrate Court has sentenced 47 Nigerians to 90 days in prison on three charges including illegal entry into the country and working without a permit.

This follows a successful swoop by the Police in the Tono enclave in the Kassena Nankana Municipality in the Upper East Region.

It formed part of strategies to combat crime in the region.

Confirming the development to GBC News, Public Affairs Director of the Upper East Regional Police Command, ASP David Fianko Okyere said the Court has further directed the Prisons Service to hand over the inmates to the Ghana Immigration Service to be repatriated to their home country after they serve their jail term.

ASP Fianko urged landlords and property owners to make known foreign nationals renting their properties to the security agencies.

He warned that they risk being arrested when found to be harbouring criminals.
