6-Unit Classroom Block for Aboso Bosomtwe D/A Junior High

Aboso is a mining and farming community located in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western region.

The area is enriched with natural resources including gold, diamond, Cocoa and rubber which contribute largely to the country’s GDP. However, the area lags behind, when it comes to education and educational infrastructure.

It is against this background, that, a Licensed Cocoa Buying Company, Federated Commodities Ltd, FEDCO has in appreciation of business relationship with the people constructed an ultra-modern 6-Unit Classroom Block which is fully furnished for the Aboso Bosumtwi DA Junior High School.

Other facilities provided are a modern WC Toilet, a borehole, computer laboratory with access to the internet.

The Headteachers’ Office also received a Laptop. The Managing Director of FEDCO, Hajia Maria Adamu who handed over the project to the community through the Ghana Education Service said as a responsible LBC, FEDCO has over the years, in collaboration with its foreign partners, undertaken numerous Corporate Social Responsibility programs across districts which have benefited from thousands of farmers and their households. With the support of its partners Valrhona International.

She said FEDCO has invested about GH ₵ 40 million over the years.

Some of the projects undertaken by the Company include the construction of seven (7) JHS and Primary School facilities with Computer Labs. and Libraries in various communities in the Western Region, construction of one Community Centre, construction of 94 Boreholes and Toilet facilities among others, the training and capacity building programmes and the payment of Farmers’ Cash Premium for the supply of Certified Cocoa Beans.

Hajia Maria gave reasons for settling on the Aboso Bosomtwe D/A.

”Besides the Company plying its trade there, the Community has a high standard of maintenance culture, amongst the Communities considered”.

The Municipal Director of Education, Mary Vida Kwofie said such initiatives go a long way towards supporting the governments’ quest to ensure equitable access to quality education for all.

” Children in all parts of the country have a right to quality education and so the provision of such a facility makes that right achievable”, she reiterated.

Madam Kwofie promised to ensure that the facility is put to the intended purpose while ensuring also that it is maintained.

The Nadieso Divisional Chief of Aboso Bosomtwe, Nana Kwabramoah expressed gratitude to FEDCO and its partners for the support, adding that the move will motivate children to attend school regularly.
