Sixty-seven people have sustained injuries after two passenger buses collided at Duapompo on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
The accident occurred at about 10:31 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The vehicles involved were a VIP coach, registered GW-5373-23 and owned by Chairman ION, and a KN KIA passenger bus, registered AK-980-26 and owned by KOD Transport.
The VIP vehicle was being driven by Simon Azuma, while Francis Yeboah was at the wheel of the KN KIA bus. Each vehicle was carrying 34 passengers at the time of the collision, bringing the total number of people involved to 68.
The GNFS said 67 passengers were rescued from the scene by members of the public before its personnel arrived. They were subsequently transported to the Konongo Government Hospital for medical attention.
The driver of the VIP coach, however, remained trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters.
According to the GNFS, its crew used a spreader in a dashboard-roll technique to free the trapped driver. He was subsequently transported to the hospital in a Fire Service ambulance, registered GV 589-20.
The collision caused partial damage to the front cowl of the VIP vehicle and the rear section of the KN KIA bus.
The GNFS said the cause of the accident had not yet been established.
It added that investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
