8 Ghanaian traders confirmed dead in fatal accident in Burkina Faso

Eight Ghanaian traders died on the spot after a truck with registration number GT268-18 on which they were travelling was involved in an accident in Burkina Faso on New Year’s Day at about 4pm.

The truck, which was transporting tomatoes to Accra, burst a front tyre near the southern Burkinabe city of Po.

According to an eyewitness, the truck somersaulted several times and killed eight of the occupants on the spot.

Nine others, who were injured are on admission at the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital in the Upper East Region while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

In an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Chairman of the Paga Tomatoes Buyers Association, Alhassan Yikindi, called for support for the bereaved families

A health worker at the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital who spoke to GBC’s Radio Ghana on condition of anonymity said the hospital has been recording similar cases every year.
