The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has approved a donation of US$250,000, equivalent to about GH¢3 million, to support victims of the recent devastating floods in Ghana.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the donation, saying the Ministry had been officially notified by the ECOWAS Commission of the decision.

According to the Minister, the Government of Ghana will ensure the entire amount is transferred to support the affected victims immediately after the funds are received by the Ministry.

“I wish to announce, in the spirit of transparency and accountability, that the Foreign Ministry has just been notified by ECOWAS that they have decided to donate US$250,000.00 (about GH¢3 million) to Ghana for victims of the recent devastating floods,” Mr. Ablakwa stated.

In a Facebook post, the Minister assured the public that the funds would be handed over in full as soon as they are credited to the Ministry’s account.

The Minister expressed the Government of Ghana’s profound gratitude to ECOWAS for the gesture, describing it as a demonstration of solidarity and genuine African compassion during a difficult period for affected communities.

The donation is expected to complement ongoing national efforts to provide relief and support to victims as recovery and rehabilitation activities continue in flood-affected areas across the country.
