‘Absentee Juror’ appears in court as trial of Kasoa teenagers’ murder case starts

Court

Father of ten-year-old Ismael Mensah Abdallah, who was allegedly murdered by two teenage boys at Kasoa for ritual purposes, has begun his evidence at the trial of the two accused persons at the Accra High Court.

The father, Frank Mensah Abdallah narrated that a day before his son was killed that is, April 3, 2021, he was then at Krachi Nkwanta in the Oti Region when he received a call from his son telling him that he had not seen him in a while and had missed him.

Mr. Mensah Abdallah said he told his son that he was busy with work and would visit him when he had the chance. He said after that call, the deceased called him again and told him to try to visit the family at Kasoa during the Easter vacation which is a long one.

The father said he replied that he had heard him and would visit.

Mr. Mensah Abdallah said he left Krachi Nkwanta and arrived at Kasoa in the morning of Saturday, April 4. He said after exchanging pleasantries with the family and taking breakfast, he told the late Ismael that he was exhausted from the long trip and needed to take a rest in the bedroom.

He said Ismael took his laptop and left for the sitting room. The father said at about 10 a.m., he was sleeping when he suddenly heard a loud knock on the door, and Ismael’s mother rushed in.

He said he quickly got up, and the mother told him that Ismael had been killed. He said he rushed to the scene and found his son lying down in a room of an uncompleted house. Mr. Mensah Abdallah said he returned to the front view of the house and saw the father of the first accused person holding the hands of the first and second accused persons and asked what happened.

He said the first accused person’s father told them to tell him the crime they had committed, but they were silent. He said he asked them why they killed his son, and they blamed each other.

Mr. Mensah Abdallah will continue with his evidence on March 14.

Meanwhile, one of the jurors hearing the trial has rescinded his decision to withdraw from the case. The court, at its last sitting, threatened to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the said juror who was absent from court, that is, he failed to appear in court on March 13.

Appearing in court, he told Judge Justice Lydia Osei Marfo that he has communicated and withdrawn the letter which purportedly announced his withdrawal from the trial.
