Abu Jinapor meets with Security Council over illegal logging & sand mining in Volta Region

The Volta Regional Minister, Archibald Yao Letsa has lamented the increasing rate of sand Mining in the region and its subsequent export to Togo. He said though the Regional Security Council is in control, there is an urgent need to halt the exportation of sand to Togo.

Addressing journalists after a closed-door meeting between the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor and the Volta Regional Security Council, Dr. Letsa noted that issues of illegal logging and depletion of the forest cover of the region is, ”one major problem that the Security Council is dealing with head on,” and appealed to the Minister to assist the REGSEC to nip it in the bud.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor said issues that have to do with protecting the country’s ecosystem are of prime importance to the government hence his resolve, ”to visit all the regions to get first-hand information on all the issues and fashioned out measures to solve them.”
