“People are not being prosecuted for engaging in corruption” has become the mantra of Anti-Corruption Campaigner and Ghana’s Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo.

He has been speaking lately on how corruption can be extinguished from Business Circles.

The Auditor General said it is time to hold Accountants responsible for their role in nurturing corruption by what he calls ” cooking the books.”

Apart from what Mr. Domelevo termed ”Cooking the books”, Accountants are believed to know better when it comes to fiscal issues and must be better placed to educate the public on dos and don’ts to avoid corrupt practices.

He said as professionals, they owe it a duty to be truthful, but that is not always the case.

In Mr. Domelevo’s view, it is time to bring to book professionals, whom by their actions condone corruption.

Suggesting solutions to exterminate corruption in Ghana, Mr. Domelevo said the systems in place must be reviewed and those who have oversight must be held accountable for what does not work. Above all, discipline is key to eradicating corruption.

Corruption is as prevalent in the public sector, as it is in private or corporate circle, the Auditor General pointed out. He chastised religious leaders for not leading the campaign to rid the country of the canker, corruption.
