An Accra High Court has granted bail to social media blogger and Shatta Movement supporter Abdul Gafaru Sani, also known as Webkid or WebkidAfrika, bringing to an end over six weeks of detention following his arrest on May 7, 2026.
The court set bail at GH¢100,000.
Webkid, a salesman and blogger who resides at Community 1, Site 2 in Tema, is standing trial over allegations of publishing false news and engaging in offensive conduct online targeting dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and members of his family.
His lawyer confirmed that Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla, is the complainant in the case, contradicting earlier claims from the musician’s team that the arrest was not instigated by him. Stonebwoy’s Public Relations representative, Vida Adutwumwaa, had previously stated that the musician did not direct the arrest, insisting that it was carried out based on a court order.
According to court documents, Webkid is being prosecuted under Section 76 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which addresses the publication of false news, as well as Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which covers offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
His initial charge sheet was later withdrawn and replaced, introducing additional counts and increasing the total charges to six.
Prosecutors allege that around November 11, 2024, the accused used his X (formerly Twitter) account to share content described as false, misleading, and capable of inciting fear and panic, allegedly putting Stonebwoy and his family at risk.
Investigations further suggest that the case is linked to events in August 2025, when Stonebwoy reportedly noticed that several videos had been removed from his YouTube channel. Internal checks allegedly led to suspicions about a former social media administrator identified as Casey Kobia, prompting a formal complaint to the Criminal Investigations Department and subsequent referral to the Cybercrime Unit.
Authorities claim that investigations revealed that Casey Kobia allegedly engaged several bloggers, including Webkid, to circulate images of Stonebwoy and his family with derogatory captions, which prosecutors say contributed to tension and amounted to conduct likely to disturb public peace.
The accused had previously been denied bail on two occasions. At a hearing on June 18, 2026, proceedings were stalled due to the absence of the presiding judge, and the case was adjourned to June 22, 2026, when bail was eventually granted.
Following the arrest, Shatta Wale publicly defended Webkid during a TikTok Live session, describing him as a “hero” and arguing that criticism of artistes is part of the music industry culture.
“It’s only a broke artiste who arrests rival fans for speaking against him because you won’t get anything from the guy you have taken to court,” he said.
