To make Alternative Dispute Resolution the most preferred, regulated and affordable mode of conflict resolution, the Ghana National Association of ADR Practitioners, GNAAP has transitioned from an Association to become the first professional body for ADR practice in the country.

The move seeks to reduce the rivalry and acrimony among disputing parties after a long Court litigation battle, which affects peace and social cohesion and makes ADR mechanisms available to the poor and vulnerable.

Speaking at its 9th Annual Conference and a ceremony to unveil its new status, President of GNAAP, Daniel Owusu Koranteng said conflict resolution mechanism must be premised on reconciliation, peace building, and social cohesion.

GNAAP champions the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution in resolving court cases to avoid prolonged family disputes as compared to the court litigation system.

Speaking at its 9th Annual Conference and unveiling of the Association’s new status, President of GNAAP, Daniel Owusu Koranteng stressed the need for the government to invest in the promotion of ADR through training to attract well trained Practitioners to handle cases that can be easily resolved using ADR to reduce backlog cases created by the litigation system and make ADR accessible to the poor and vulnerable.

Representing the Chief Justice, Justice of the Court of Appeal and Judge–In–Charge of ADR at the Judicial Service of Ghana, Her ladyship Irene-Charity Larbi admonished ADR Practitioners to uphold the principles of their profession and fair hearing of cases.

President of the Ghana ADR hub and Senior lecturer, Ghana School of Law, Micheal Gyang Owusu asked ADR practitioners to take a look at specialized areas to broaden their field of work.

12 new members were inducted into the Association with a new logo unveiled to signify the GNAAP’s new status.
