ADR workshop for local gov’t officials ends in Accra

As part of the Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies’ Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM), a three (3) day training program on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) has been held for Assembly members and staff of local government authorities in Accra.

The workshop which was held at the Accra City Hall under the auspices of the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) Sanitation and Water Project ((SWP) from 28th to 30th May was to equip participants drawn from 11 assemblies in GAMA with mediation skills which is expected to improve the delivery of duties.

Delivering the closing address, Deputy Director, Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, Josephine Manu, urged participants to be changed agents in their various assemblies and also work to actualize the President’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

Areas covered under the training include, Dispute prevention, negotiation, mediation and arbitration among others.

Emmanuel Clottey, Executive Assistant to the Metro Chief Executive (MCE) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in a brief remark, applauded the organizers of the program stressing the essence and fruitfulness of the training.

Reverend Immanuel Tettey, Chief Executive Officer of Tettey and Associates, facilitators for the workshop, expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming interest exhibited throughout the three (3) day training.

He reiterated the essence of ADR in the functions of the Assembly especially in delivering on the mandate as expected under the GAMA-SWP.

Ossa Aryeetey a representative of AMA-GAMA SWP who spoke on behalf of the Metropolitan Coordinator of the project, thanked participants for honouring the invitation and tasked them to apply skills acquired effectively.

The Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) Sanitation and Water Project (SWP) is a World Bank funded project for Ghana with the development objective of increasing access to improved sanitation and water supply in the GAMA, with emphasis on low income communities and to strengthen management of environmental sanitation in the GAMA.
