Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has announced that the John Mahama-led government is set to revoke the controversial Legislative Instrument (LI) 2462, which permits individuals or groups to mine in forest reserves.

The LI 2462 has been the subject of widespread public outcry and political debate.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement on illegal mining convened by President John Dramani Mahama in Accra on Friday, October 3, 2025, Dr. Ayine revealed that a new instrument, LI 2505, has been prepared by his office and is scheduled to be laid before Parliament on October 14, when the House resumes sitting.

“We have prepared an instrument that is LI 2505 in my office, and that will be laid in Parliament on the 14th of October, 2025,” he stated.

The Attorney General confirmed that this decision was taken in agreement with the sector Minister, and the move aims to formally revoke the controversial LI 2462.

“The Minister and I have agreed that on the 14th of October, when Parliament resumes, we will lay that instrument to revoke the famous LI 2462,” he reiterated.
