An Agronomist, Bright Demordzi has been looking at the Awards ceremony and lessons that have emerged after the ceremony. He told GBC’s George Ankrah that the recognition of Farmers and Fishers is worthwhile; however, he disagreed with claims, that this is the first time Ghana is exporting food to the outside world.

President Akufo-Addo during the 36th Farmers’ Day celebration said Ghana is now a net exporter of foodstuffs. He noted that, in the immediate years before his assumption of office, the performance of the agricultural sector was nothing short of abysmal, evidenced by growth rates of 0.9% in 2014 and 2.9% in 2016.

But Agronomist, Bright Demordzi, says, “this is not the first time that we are a net exporter of food crops in this country.”

Mr. Demordzie suggested what successive governments should do with Award winners to promote further Agricultural production in the country.

Meanwhile, the President of the Agriculture Chamber of Commerce, Philip Abayori says the Awards Day was well organised and was a success.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Mr. Abayori who was once an award winner said the recognition should spur farmers on to do more to feed the nation and for export.
