The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced that the ongoing $15 million renovation of Terminal 2 at the Accra International Airport is officially scheduled for completion by December 2026.
The massive upgrade project aims to completely modernize the terminal to enhance the passenger experience and boost regional tourism.
The Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, confirmed that the contractor has accelerated work to meet the end-of-year deadline without disrupting current flight schedules.
She said the project was progressing as planned and expressed confidence that the renovated terminal would be ready for use by the end of the year.
“By December 2026, we will finish the whole work on Terminal 2, and His Excellency the President will come and commission it,” she said.
Key upgrades under the $15 million project include:
Upgraded baggage handling systems for faster processing.
Expanded check-in counters to reduce passenger wait times.
Modernized security checkpoints with advanced screening tech.
Refurbished commercial spaces for retail and duty-free shops.
This transformation is part of GACL’s broader strategy to position Accra as the premier aviation hub in West Africa.
Terminal 2, which primarily handles domestic and select regional flights, has seen a steady surge in passenger traffic over the last few years, making the structural overhaul vital.
GACL assured the public that strict safety protocols are in place to ensure smooth transit for travelers during the final phases of construction.
