Alliance organisation to assist people living in poverty

The Alliance of Civil Society Organisations for Clean Energy Access, ACCESS has engaged similar civil society organisations in the country on their efforts at achieving SDG seven. ACCESS is a global organisation with the objective of providing affordable, reliable and sustainable energy by 2030.

The meeting which was held in Accra brought together about 20 CSO’s in clean energy to deliberate on their initiatives that will influence policies to attain goal seven of the sustainable development goal.

The International Coordinator of ACCESS, Jacqueline Kimeu, commended Ghana for achieving 80 percent energy penetration. She said the organisation will share success stories with similar organisations in other countries.

A Director at the Ministry of Energy, in charge of Renewable Energy, Wisdom Ahiataku- Togobo enumerated projects undertaken by government over the years that have contributed to 80 percent energy accessibility in the country.

He mentioned the Liquified Petroleum Gas, LPG cylinder redistribution progamme that has been piloted in some districts as very important since this will reduce cost and burden on families in getting to LPG filling stations.

Mr Ahiataku- Togobo said government’s plan of distributing two million improved cook stoves by the end of the under the Sustainable Energy Master Plan is on course. He said with support from the Korean government, 500 thousand improved cook stoves will soon be distributed to selected families in seven regions.

The Executive Director of a civil society organisation in energy based in Takoradi, Daasgift Quality Foundation, Gifty Asmah mentioned high tariffs on imported materials for stoves as contributing to cost of products and called for a reduction.

The Alliance of Civil Society Organisation for Clean Energy, ACCESS is made of more than 70 cso’s with the aim of assisting people living in poverty to have access to safe, reliable and affordable energy.
