The Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Adjei Sowah has called for a sustainable financial mechanism to deal with the sanitation situation in the country.
He said as government allocates funds for the Free Senior High School (SHS), it needs to provide the same for sanitation in order to achieve the President’s agenda of making Accra the cleanest city.
Mr Adjei Sowah was speaking at the National Development Planning Commission’s  8th National Development Forum in Accra.
The 8th National Development Forum seeks to assemble the views of stakeholders on how to address the relentless sanitation problems.
It is also to ensure that the state of sanitation corresponds with the country’s development trajectory.
Poor sanitation has been an issue of grave concern. Although over the years different government policies and interventions have sought to stem the precarious condition, there has been little improvement.
This, the Chief Executive Officer of the AMA, Mohammed Adjei Sowah said can be achieved if a sustainable financial mechanism is introduced.
He said a solution to the landfill sites will also go a long way to help curb the poor sanitation situation.
