Some Anti-corruption campaigners have raised concerns about the rhetoric of the new Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyabeng during his vetting on Thursday, July 22.
Mr Agyabeng’s nomination for the office of Special Prosecutor received approval by consensus following a vetting which lasted three hours.
During his vetting, Mr. Agyabeng outlined a strategy to fight corruption dubbed “Pressure for Progress” and insisted he will be his own man and will not try to walk in the shadows of his predecessor.
Reacting to this, Anti-Corruption Campaigner, Vitus Azeem, said Mr. Agyabeng during his vetting, raised the hopes of Ghanaians with his ambitious plans to end corruption.
He described Mr. Agyabeng’s rhetoric as problematic.
This is because he made it seem as though as Special Prosecutor, he can fight corruption alone.
The Executive Secretary of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson, raised similar concerns. He, however, admitted from the vetting that Mr Agyabeng had no skeleton in his closet which is good news.
