Appiatse Explosion: Chief Inspector of mines Kofi Adjei interdicted; Maxam Limited’s License suspended

The deadly explosion flattened the small town, Appiatse in the Western region of Ghana.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has directed the Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission, to interdict the Chief Inspector of Mines, Kofi Adjei with immediate effect. 

A statement by the Ministry has also suspended the registration license of the mining services contractor; Maxam Limited with the Mineral Commission thereby precluding the company from the manufacture, transportation and supply of explosives for mining operations, pending the outcome of investigation into the matter.

The statement assured the public that ongoing investigations will be thorough and comprehensive, stressing that any public Official found culpable will be made to face the full rigors of the law.
