The Archbishop Porter Girls Past Students Association, (APPSA) has presented a four wheel Hyundai Tucson worth over fifty thousand Ghana cedis, (GH₵50,000) to the outgoing headmistress of the Archbishop Porter Girls secondary school, APGSS, Mrs.Mary Armah Brako who is on retirement.
The presentation was done among other presentations at a valedictory ceremony held in her honour at the school in Takoradi in the Western Region.
Reading her profile, the current headmistress of the school, Mrs .Charlotte Asiedu-Musah mentioned that Mrs. Armah -Brako also a past student of Archbishop Porter Girls in the 70’s where she was a Jude house prefect when it was newly created.
After her ‘O’ level in 1976, she went to the USA for one year as a foreign exchange student following a successful interview conducted by the American Fields Services, AFS, Intellectual Exchange Programme. She did her 6th forum, ‘A’ level at St. Louis Secondary school, Kumasi from 1977 to 1979.
In 1985 she graduated from the University of Cape-Coast with BA (honours) and DIP.
Mrs. Armah Brako after another successful interview by the AFS, was selected to go to Denmark as a Guest Teacher for one year in 2000.
In Denmark, she had the opportunity to teach students from all grades.
She also attended the University of Denmark and graduated with PGCE in Comparative Education and project management in 2001.
Back to APGSS, Mrs. Armah Brako became the Head of English Department from 1990 to 2000 where she also rise to the prestigious rank of Senior House Mistress in 2001.
Her experiences as an Exchange student in the US and a Guest Teacher in Denmark earned her the opportunity to work with the US Refugee Resettlement Programme from July 2003 to 2008 as a Cultural Orientation orientation Instructor.
She also taught briefly at the St. Mary’s boys secondary school , Apowa in Takoradi from May 2008 to August 2009.
Mrs. Armah Brako also taught at the Holy Child College of Education in Sekondi from September 2009 to January 2014.
On January 2, 2014, she was appointed substantive headmistress of her alma mata, APGSS after a competitive interview. Her tenure of office saw the refurbishment of the school laboratories by the Tullow Ghana among others.
Mrs. Armah Brako was a member of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools,CHASS, Association of Catholic Heads of Higher Institutions, ACHHI, Forum of Heads of Girls Senior High Schools and the Secretary to the Western Regional CHASS .
She retired from active service as headmistress on September 11, 2018. Mrs Armah-Brakoh is married to Mr. Jones Collins Armah Brako and a mother of four.
Receiving her presentations, Mrs. Armah Brako thanked the school, teaching and non- teaching staff as well as APPSANS for the immense support accorded her during at various stages of her service to the school.
She expressed profound gratitude for the presentation adding that she will always be available to support the school when the need arises.
She advised continuing as well as past students to always remember that their attitudes, wherever they find themselves is seen as a reflection of the school.
The National President of the Archbishop Porter Past Students Association Randa Asare said by dint of her hard work, Mrs. Armah Brako has excelled beyond excellence and deserved to be celebrated.
She called on Ghanaians particularly APPSANS severing the country at any capacity to do to do so creditably and selflessly for personal and national development and prosperity.
She also thanked members of the association for their immense contribution and invaluable support towards the school and called on past students who are not yet members of the Association to join to continue to make the school one of the best in the country.
Mrs. Armah Brako was pulled out of the school by the schools’ cadet corps , staff, Parents and Teachers Association, PTA and APPSANS.
