The Chief of Army Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has reaffirmed the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s peace and stability.

During his familiarisation tour of the Northern Command, Major General Gbetanu emphasized that the Ghana Armed Forces remain fully prepared to counter both internal and external threats to national security.

Northern Ghana faces significant threats from violent extremist organizations operating in the Sahel, in addition to periodic chieftaincy, ethnic, and land disputes that occasionally threaten the region’s stability.

Upon his arrival, the Army Chief was received with a guard of honour at the headquarters of the Northern Command, signifying the importance of his visit. The tour forms part of his efforts to engage directly with troops, assess operational readiness, and strengthen collaboration across northern Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with GBC News, Major General Gbetanu underscored the importance of unity and vigilance. He stated that the Ghana Armed Forces remain poised and ready to respond effectively to any form of threat to the nation’s peace and security.

“The Ghana Armed Forces is actually poised to contain any threat, whether external or internal. We have deployed troops at strategic locations across the country to contain any threat that may confront us as a nation,” he emphasised.

As part of the visit, the Army Chief is scheduled to tour various troop formations in Northern Ghana and hold strategic meetings with key stakeholders, including the Regional Minister and traditional rulers in the Northern Command’s operational area.

These engagements aim to foster coordination, gather feedback, and reinforce the military’s support for regional development and security initiatives.

This visit underscores the Ghana Armed Forces’ ongoing commitment to national security and demonstrates strong leadership at a critical time for peace and development in the country.
