The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, says for the Ghanaian society to be assured of sustainable peace and harmonious co-existence among all the divergent faiths, there must be truth and justice always.

Additionally, government and its institutions must take proactive steps to address all factors such as unemployment which contribute to social vices.

The Asantehene gave the advice in Kumasi when the Board of the National Peace Council paid a courtesy call on him.

Just before the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, a new board for the National Peace Council, NPC assumed duty taking over from the one which completed its full two-term office of eight years.

The visit to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi was therefore to formally introduce the new members to the Asantehene who is a key stakeholder in the national effort at maintaining peace.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, entreated the National Peace Council to help state agencies to identify factors that contribute to conflict in society such as youth unemployment and find solutions to them.

Similarly, the Asantehene identified honesty, truth and Justice as the only factors that can guarantee sustainable national peace.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu also called for an amicable resolution to the issue of religion and worship in schools.

Chairman of the National Peace Council, Reverend Ernest Adu Gyamfi, disclosed that very soon, a new set of regulations for the management of mission schools will be introduced to avert recurrence of religious misunderstanding within the school system.

The NPC Chairman disclosed that the Council plans to organize an event called the National Healing Programme to address the political differences caused as a result of the 2020 electioneering.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu promised to support a National Peace Fund to be created by the NPC to undertake its programmes and activities.

The NPC is scheduled to organize activities in September to commemorate 10 years of its establishment.

The immediate past Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante presented a copy of his new book titled ‘From a Nobody to Somebody’ to Otumfuo Osei Tutu ahead of its launch in Kumasi on the 23rd of May.
