The member of Parliament for Bimbila and Minister of Defence Dominic Nitiwul called for calm and asked the MP, for the area, Ernest Norgbey to tone down.

The Minister who jointly addressed the media in Parliament with the Parliamentary select committee on Defense and Interior appealed to the people of Ghana to be very respectful of people in uniform for peace to prevail.

He said, “we’re shaping up a country and we are going to have some of these regrettable incidents, but I will still appeal to the people of Ghana to be respectful to people in uniform. It will help all of us. According to him, all stakeholders are working in order to bring this “trickish situation under control”.

On his part, Chair of the Defense and Interior Committee, Kennedy Agyapong noted that, “we are beings that there were excesses and therefore we sympathize with the people of Ashaiman. At the same time, we also sympathize with the Ghana Armed Forces for our young men taking the law into their own hands to kill one of theirs”.

The briefing was followed by a joint meeting with the Committee Members, Defence Ministry and the Military High Command behind closed doors.
