The Police in Ashanti have arrested six persons believed to be members of a criminal syndicate operating particularly in the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area.
At a media briefing in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, CoP Akoto Arthur, named the suspects whose ages range from 20 to 45 years., as Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa”, Hadi Samed, alias “Toronto”, Issahaku Musah, alias “Isak”, Suraj Mohammed, alias “Baba Nde”, alias “Trouble”, Hadi Abdul Majeed, alias “Panie”, and Foster Owusu Afriyie, alias “Joe Fraizer”. CoP Arthur said the suspects were arrested at various locations this month by the Anti Armed Robbery Squad of the Regional Police Command in collaboration with the IGP’s Special Operations Unit.
“Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a number of reported street robbery incidents at Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, Kwadaso Estate and other locations within the Region”, the Commander emphasized.
Some of the suspects were already on bail from the Asokwa District Court where they are allegedly standing trial for other crimes.
COP Arthur disclosed that “further investigations led to the arrest of Augustine Agyemang Duah, a resident of Adum P.Z., who is suspected of assisting members of the syndicate to unlock mobile phones believed to have been stolen.”
The Regional Police Commander said other suspects are on the run and asked for support of members of the public to track them down. He identified the suspects as Umaru, Dauda, Malik, Abdul Shattar and Abdul Farouk.
COP Arthur while commending the IGP’s Special Operations Team for its immense role in the dismantling armed robbery syndicates and associates in the Ashanti region.
